History
Rob Hooper joined Suzuki in 1996 at the end of a racing career spanning almost 20 years. Rob competed in British and World championships as a factory rider for several European manufacturers and represented Great Britain in the Moto Cross and Trophee des Nations on 5 occasions, the high point being a team silver medal in Finland in 1979.
Rob took over as Moto Cross team manager for Suzuki GB in 1987. When Suzuki GB withdrew from direct racing in 1991, Rob and his wife Cheryl established Suzuki MX Racing Team UK as an independent company whose existence in reliant on the involvement and commitment of its sponsors and partners. The team is still the only officially supported team of Suzuki GB. Maxxis and Apico remain title sponsors for the team.
Team News
Although there were some stong rides last yearRob Hooper has made some chamges through the winter. The familiar pairing of Rob Hooper and Suzuki will return to the Maxxis British Motocross Championship in 2012, with the added news that ‘Apico Suzuki’ has signed Lewis Gregory, Luke Hawkins and Damon Strydom.
Set to concentrate solely on the MX2 class, Apico Suzuki will contest the proven RMZ 250 and RMZ 450, reaffirming the Hooper and Suzuki partnership that reaches 26 years in 2012.
With title sponsorship from Apico, the team will contest Maxxis British Championship, Red Bull Pro Nationals, British Masters series, along with other major events, such as the Hawkstone International.
The Maxxis British motocross championship 2012 is already underway and there is no doubt that both the MX1 and MX2 classes will be ultra competitive (not to mention the MXY2 and the Veterans) and now Rob Hooper has released details that he is back into the fold with possibly one of his strongest teams ever, under the banner of Apico Suzuki.
Fielding two riders in the MX2 class which he has been part of for 25 years virtually unbroken, Rob has teamed up with Apico, GET and some other sponsors to field Lewis Gregory, Luke Hawkins and Damon Strydom in 2011. Luke and Damon will ride the competitive Suzuki RMZ-250 and Lewis will be aboard the RMZ 450.
